The members of dc.sage are very concerned about privacy issues. This statement of policy describes how the systems administrators and other officials of dc.sage will handle data that is received from members. This statement also lists the expectation of dc.sage members to respect the privacy of other dc.sage members. Acceptance of and adherence to this statement of policy is assumed in your use of dc.sage computer resources, including E-mail, and web-based services.
All dc.sage members are expected to respect and adhere to this policy in handling any information about dc.sage members that is available to them through the use of dc.sage information services (E-mail, web pages, etc). Misuse of dc.sage information services for the purpose of unsolicited or unwanted contact of other members to promote or sell goods or services (including, but not limited to: recruiting services, placement services, contract services, sales, etc.) may be grounds for immediate expulsion from dc.sage. The unauthorized release or re-publication of dc.sage member information to third parties for any reason, or any action or activity that potentially violates the privacy of dc.sage members whose information is made available to you,
The key to authenticating dc.sage members is the web ID and password that is issued to them. dc.sage members should take reasonable precautions to protect their web passwords from use by non dc.sage members. dc.sage members should periodically change their password, using the appropriate password-change form. Under no circumstances should dc.sage members share their web ID or password or authenticated access to dc.sage information services with others. Should a dc.sage member believe that their web ID has been lost or stolen, or if they have forgotten their password, they should contact the account administrators immediately. Sharing of dc.sage web ID and passwords may be grounds for revocation of web access privileges.
dc.sage requests various pieces of information from prospective members upon application to dc.sage (name, E-mail address, etc.) By default none of this data is made available to other dc.sage members, or other organizations. dc.sage has no intention to make individual member information available to any other organization, including USENIX/SAGE, technical recruiters, or to any other organization or entity for any reason whatsoever (unless legally required by duly authorized law enforcement officials). dc.sage will not give, sell, lease, barter, exchange, loan, or otherwise make available individual membership data to other organizations without the explicit consent (Opt-In) of the member.
dc.sage does not make member information available to other dc.sage members by default without explicit consent (Opt-In) of the member. The one exception to this are the E-mail addresses and names that receive messages from the dc.sage mailing lists. These data are available to other dc.sage members as a function of the mailing list software. Membership in dc.sage requires member subscription to the dc-sage-announce mailing list. However that mailing list does not allow other members to view the list members. Other dc.sage mailing lists allow subscribed members to view the list members.
dc.sage may, in the future, create a web-based membership directory. Inclusion in the directory, and the selection of which pieces of information is visible in the directory, will be entirely voluntary, at the discretion of each dc.sage member. Access to the membership directory will be strictly limited to dc.sage members. The systems administrators of dc.sage will make every effort to include data in the directory for members that desire to be visible there. However, dc.sage can't guarantee that unintentional transcription errors may result in member data being published in the directory accidentally.
The systems administrators of dc.sage may, in the future, create an online membership database that will be used to manage dc.sage information resources (including the web-based membership directory). Access to the online membership database will be restricted to the systems administrators and officials of dc.sage. All reasonable and feasible security precautions to protect the confidentiality of the membership database and minimize risk of exposure will be exercised in designing and maintaining the system. However, dc.sage can't guarantee that unintentional exposure of the database will never occur, either as a result of accident, oversight, or malicious behavior. Individual members of dc.sage should not provide data to the organization that they consider too sensitive to be stored in such a database with these inherent risks.
At some point in the future, dc.sage may provide a mechanism through which individual members may view and update their information in the online membership database. All reasonable and feasible security precautions to prevent unauthorized viewing and or modification of individual member data will be exercised in designing and maintaining the system. However, dc.sage can't guarantee that the authentication system will be undefeatable through the use of technical and/or social engineering techniques. Each dc.sage member is responsible for protecting the security of his/her web password, which is the key authentication token used to update the online membership database.
